The first 30,000 pages have been unveiled of a vast encyclopedia which aims to catalogue every one of our planet's 1.8 million species. The immense online resource is designed to greatly enhance our understanding of the world's diminishing biodiversity. Take a look at: http://www.eol.org/

I was delighted to observe a Buzzard for about 6-7 minutes on Sunday afternoon 8th June soaring as close as only 200 feet above me. A Crow eventually arrived and attempted to mob it, but the Buzzard soared effortlessly upward and out of the Crow's range. I had plenty of time to view it through binoculars for a few minutes at close range. Absolutely stunning. I hope there here in Essex to stay. The Buzzard headed off in a north and easterly direction over the A120.
